Copa’s new split scimitar winglets in Curacao

Copa1WILLEMSTAD - This past weekend was great again for the Curacao airport. Sunwing Airlines used another logo jet to Curacao and there was another interesting sight at the airport. Copa Airlines used its first aircraft to Curacao that has the new split-scimitar winglets.

These new winglets improve the efficiency of the aircraft and results in a fuel burn reduction of about 2% per aircraft. To see the difference between the "older winglets" andSunwing these newer ones, you can see the photos that show both winglets.

United Airlines is the world's first carrier to operate an airliner fitted with new "split scimitar" winglets on a commercial flight.

United said, in a press release, last February that the "freshly retrofitted" Boeing 737-800" took to the skies, marking the first commercial flight worldwide to operate with the advanced winglet technology."

The new split scimitar winglets debuted on United Flight 1273, which flew on February 18 of this year from Houston Bush Intercontinental to Los Angeles. United says it installed the winglets after it received FAA approval for the technology.
