InselAir Airline Safety Conference 2013

As IOSA certified leading airline in the region, InselAir stretches the importance of safety

Insel_AirWILLEMSTAD -
Friday November 29, 2013 InselAir held its first Safety (E-IOSA) Conference in Curacao. During this conference, for which around 150 participants registered, experts from InselAir and also external specialists explained and emphasized the importance of safety within the aviation industry. InselAir is one of the few airlines in the Caribbean that is IOSA certified and therefore feels the responsibility to communicate and educate stakeholders about this matter as it is important, not only for InselAir, but also for the whole aviation industry.

IATA and IOSA
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) is the trade association for the world’s airlines, representing 240 airlines or 84% of total air traffic. IATA supports many areas of aviation activity and helps formulate industry policy on critical aviation issues, such as safety. The IOSA (IATA Operational Safety Audit) certification is an internationally recognized and accepted evaluation system designed to assess the operational management and control systems of an airline. InselAir has been IOSA certified since 2011 and is currently in the process of the usual and mandatory 2-yearly renewal of this certification. As safety is the most important element in the aviation industry, InselAir decided to organize a conference to create more awareness amongst employees and other stakeholders. “Safety is not something that is only important for passengers, pilots, crew and maintenance; safety concerns all employees and all colleagues in the industry. That is why today we are explaining in detail what it takes to become IOSA certified and to remain IOSA certified. Furthermore, there are also many organizational consequences involved as auditing and complying to standards takes time, money and dedication from our employees’, according to Ivo Oduber, Chief Maintenance Officer and IOSA project manager of InselAir. “I am also very happy to welcome the Director of the Department of Civil Aviation (CCAA), Mr. Oscar Derby today. He did a tremendous job explaining the audience the importance of safety, also in relation to becoming a category 1 country again”, concludes Oduber.
