KLM passenger must get compensation for delay

KLM-logoWILLEMSTAD – A KLM passenger from Curacao must get compensation for the delay which he sustained on June 7, 2010. Passenger Arend Jan de Winter was suppose to fly to the Netherlands on that day. Due to a technical failure, the aircraft did not arrive on Curacao. When De Winter was able to finally get his flight to the Netherlands, he was delayed 25 hours in total.

The Court of First Instance ruled in De Winter’s favor in his case agasint KLM. The airline must pay 600 euro compensation. In addition, KLM must pay De Winter about 1000 guilders in costs. Winter has announced that the ruling is of principles. “The verdict means that the aviation company must honor the claims of the people of the Caribbean islands in the Kingdom,” De Winter stated. According to him, passengers who arrive at their destination three or more hours after the scheduled arrival time may submit a claim of 600 euro.
