KLM says loss of thousands of jobs ‘pure speculation’

KLM at Curacao airportAMSTERDAM - The reports that Air France-KLM announced the elimination of thousands of jobs are “pure speculation”. This is according to a spokesperson for the Dutch aviation company KLM. The Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad (AD) reported that KLM was planning to eliminate the jobs of 7,500 KLM workers by outsourcing these.

"The report is based on false information," said the spokesman, who also doesn’t want to say much, because Air France-KLM will release their quarterly figures tomorrow. Because the company is in the silent period, the spokesman wants to say nothing about a possible reorganization.

Chairman of The Trade Union Reinier Castelein said to fear a big job shrinkage. In AD he said, "I hear the familiar stories about impending layoffs and now they often sound realistically terrifying to me.”
