On standby: LIAT could call off flights because of potential storm

LIATST. JOHN’S - Regional airline LIAT said it could be forced to cancel some flights, starting late this evening and into Thursday, due to impending bad weather from a tropical wave that could develop into a storm soon.

It a statement putting passengers on notice, the Antigua-based carrier did not indicate which flights were likely to be affected.

The airline has advised passengers to continue monitoring official meteorological offices, disaster preparedness organisations, radio stations and the airline for further updates.

“Customers affected by the disruptions who wish to rebook for a later date will be allowed to do so without change fees or fare differences for a period of two weeks from the date of their original scheduled travel. Following the two-week grace period, passengers will be required to pay applicable fare and change fees when re-booking,” it further advised.

“LIAT also wishes to advise that passengers who decide to travel but are unable to complete their journey due to disruption caused by weather conditions, will not be provided with meals, transportation, hotel accommodation etc. Passengers with onward connections are advised to contact the respective carriers.”

The airline is expected to issue another advisory later today.
