United Airlines ready to fly to Cuba if authorized
HAVANA, Cuba - United Airlines has announced its plans to fly to Cuba from Houston, Texas, and Newark, New Jersey, if it receives authorization by the US administration.
The announcement was made by United Airlines’ spokesperson Rahsaan Johnson and reported by international media outlets.
The Obama administration implemented a series of measures on Friday easing limited trips to Cuba by US citizens in 12 different categories, although it has maintained the overall Cuba travel ban.
This and other measures come after the decision announced on December 17 by Washington and Cuba to reestablish diplomatic relations.
US airlines and travel agencies are now allowed to offer their services to Cuba without needing to apply for special licences and US citizens that travel to the island will be able to use their credit cards and spend up to $400 on Cuban products, with a limited $100 amount for alcohol and cigars.
