CIFC increases Curaçao brand awareness internationally
IFA, SALT and STEP Conferences
WILLEMSTAD - This year again/ continuing with the efforts to promote Curaçao, the Curaçao International Financial Center (CIFC) contributed to a favorable development of the island’s brand awareness by attending and co-sponsoring several important conferences in the financial services field held abroad. Representatives from Curaçao attended the Encuentro Regional Latinoamericano hosted by the International Fiscal Association (IFA) in Lima, Peru and the SALT conference in Las Vegas, U.S.A. Last week a large delegation attended the STEP Global Congress in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. “Participation in international conferences is essential to maintain and improve Curaçao’s reputation as an outstanding jurisdiction for the financial service industry,” said Ralph Palm, chairman of CIFC.
IFA Encuentro Regional Latinoamericano
The IFA Encuentro Regional Latinoamericano is a vital source of information for financial services providers worldwide wishing to keep up to date on global trends and developments in the field of international taxation. CIFC attended the eighth annual conference, which took place over the course of two days in May in Lima, Peru. “Curaçao was the only jurisdiction with an information booth, through which its five representatives, including 3 co-sponsors, were able to reach a large chunk of the over 400 engaged conference participants; mainly from Latin America,” said Herman Behr, a CIFC daily board member.
The IFA was established in 1938 and is headquartered in the Netherlands. With nearly 12,500 members from 113 countries and 68 branches worldwide, IFA is the only non-governmental and non-sectoral international organization dealing with fiscal matters. Its objects are the study and advancement of international and comparative law in regard to public finance, specifically international and comparative fiscal law and the financial and economic aspects of taxation. Along with the increasing globalization of the world’s economies, international tax issues have become more numerous and increasingly important. IFA seeks to achieve its objects through its annual congresses and the scientific publications relating thereto as well as through scientific research, which means that it is essential for our jurisdiction to be represented at this forum as our island boasts an impressive amount of trust offices and financial services providers.
CIFC attended the SALT 2016 conference, which took place from May 10th through May 13th at the Bellagio hotel in Las Vegas. With a delegation of 4, including 3 co-sponsors who accompanied CIFC, Curaçao was effectively promoted among the 1700 participants. The SALT conference is considered by hedge funds as the “Superbowl” of hedge fund conferences and is an invitation-only gathering. Featured speakers included Michal R. Bloomberg, the founder of Bloomberg LP; Felipe Calderon, the president of Mexico; Mark Mobius, executive chairman of Templeton Emerging Markets Group; and Robert E. Rubin, the former secretary of the U.S. Treasury. “We are grateful for the opportunity to have been a Bronze sponsor with an exhibit booth on location to promote the international financial services sector of Curaçao among the many industry heavyweights in the finance, politics and business fields,” said Anuschka Cova, chairman of Curaçao International Financial Services Association (CIFA). CIFC and CIFA work side by side to promote Curaçao’s international financial services sector. In doing so, both organizations strive to participate in a broad range of international conferences to cover all the financial services and products offered by Curaçao’s financial service providers.
STEP Global Conference
The STEP Global Conference is the last conference co-sponsored by CIFC for the first half of this year. The conference focusses on wealth structuring, particularly relevant for professionals in the trust sector and estate planning. A delegation of 7 co-sponsors and at least 13 other individuals represented Curaçao during the event which took place in the Krasnapolsky Hotel in Amsterdam from June 30th to July 1st. During the conference several renowned speakers addressed the audience and participants enjoyed a program that was specifically designed to inform and engage. The conference was also a unique opportunity for participants to network. The estimated number of attendees ranged from 300 to 350.
