First day STEP Caribbean Conference 2015 hosted by Anguilla, Amidst Much Global Change
PHILLIPSBURG, WILLEMSTAD – The largest offshore financial services conference in the region, STEP CC 2015 is currently taking place in Sint Maarten. The conference is hosted by the island of Anguilla.
The conference is urging delegates to consider “global dynamics, regional solutions”
Thirteen jurisdictions in the Caribbean region are participating in this year’s conference from The Bahamas to Panama with each jurisdiction sitting on the steering committee and assisting in the development of the program.
Under the theme “GLOBAL DYNAMICS, REGIONAL SOLUTIONS” this year’s conference has a stellar line of speakers, drawn from the financial services sector and trust sector from around the world.
On the first day speakers covered topics such as The Future of Offshore Tax Planning, Cyber Security: How strong is your firewall?, Planning in the New World – Alternative Structures and Registers of Beneficial Ownership.
STEP CC2015 Chair, Mr. Carlyle Rogers told Curaçao Chronicle that he is very satisfied with the number of participants and the level of the speakers. “It is my hope that during this conference, delegates and speakers will gain a much better and deeper understanding of the issues which our jurisdictions face and the external forces which buffer our existence,” Rogers said.
The conference started with the remarks of Mrs. Hélène Lewis, former Chair of STEP Worldwide and a veteran of the industry with over 26 years of experience gained in the BVI. Mrs. Lewis discussed what International Financial Center’s (IFC’s) need to do, with practical advice and recommendations, to adapt to the new regulatory paradigm and take advantage of the opportunities which this presents.
The conference runs from May 4 – 6 at the Westin Resort in Sint Maarten. For more information, please visit their stepcaribbeanconference.com
