Five oil tankers seized in Curaçao
WILLEMSTAD - The problems with Venezuela and its companies continue and Curaçao is right in the middle of it all. Venezuela has serious problems with its cash flow. The country does not have enough money to comply with its financial obligations, it is causing problems even here on the island.
One of the problems in Curaçao are the oil tankers adorning the horizon that cannot enter the harbour to do what they came to the island to do. This is because the Venezuelan State Oil Company (PdVSA) does not have money to pay.
Recently a very well-known international an agency seized five Venezuelan oil tankers here in Curaçao. The reason for this action is because Venezuela did not comply with the legal and financial requirements. Four of these ships were docked in the harbour and one was docked at the Bullenbaai oil terminal. After the agency received payment from PdVSA these oil tankers were released and were able to continue to their destinations.
It is not the first time that oil tankers are seized here on the island. This actually happens on a regular base, according to a source. Some of these tankers even stay on the island for days pending payment from the Venezuelan company.
