FTAC and Consumer Organization to start working together

FTAC-Fair-Trade-Authority-Curacao-teamWILLEMSTAD - The Fair Trade Authority Curaçao (FTAC) and the Fundashon pa Konsumidó (FpK), the Consumer Organization, have entered into a partnership. Thanks to the collaboration, the organization can forward complaints that consumers have about competition to FTAC.

On the grounds of the National Ordinance on Fair Trade, the FTAC has been established to supervise the rules for free and undistorted competition in all economic sectors of Curaçao and to enforce these if necessary. The fair trade organization acts against companies that prevent, restrict or distort competition. The new rules of the National Ordinance on Competition will apply as of 1 September 2017.

The Consumer Organization was established with the aim to represent the interests of the Curaçao consumer in all cases as an independent organization, without any connection with any political or philosophical movement or organization. The aim is to achieve a fully legal, economic and social position of the consumer.

Notwithstanding that the consumer's own choice is central to the FPK, attention is also paid to consumer awareness of the social consequences of private and collective consumption.

Agreements have been made in the cooperation protocol about, among other things, joint information activities about the fair trade rules and the forwarding of complaints from consumers about competition problems by the FpK to the FTAC.
