Gijsbertha guarantees dividend payment UTS to the government of Curaçao

gijsberthaWILLEMSTAD - No special provision needs to be made for the dividend payment of the telecommunication company UTS. The government writes this in its letter to the Council for Financial Supervision (CFT). The institution had insufficient guarantees about the payment of dividend from UTS.

According to the CFT, the decision of the general shareholders meeting of the UTS states that no dividend of € 37 million will be paid in 2016, but will be repaid above nominal paid-up capital. The CFT regards the claim against UTS as very uncertain and wants the government to make a provision for its budget.

Not necessary, says Minister of Finance Kenneth Gijsbertha, since there is a decision of the general shareholders meeting. This resolution of the special general meeting of shareholders guarantees that 37 million guilders will be paid. There is also a ratification of the repayment with an official payment plan which was asked for by the, says Gijsbertha.
