Palm: Airport Master Plan completed in 2017

AirportWILLEMSTAD - The master plan for Hato Airport is in progress. According to the plan, Curacao must have one of the best airports in the region by 2017, which can handle approximately 2.5 million visitors per year.

The current airport can handle up to 1.8 million visitors annually and in that process has become too small. The total investment will be 45 million guilders.

Minister of Economic Development Stanley Palm said, during a recent debate in Parliament that the development of the 'Airport City' has priority within the master plan. The manager of the airport, Curacao Airport Partners (CAP), is already working on its implementation.

Also, the request was received to build a Hyatt Place Business Hotel in Airport City. Palm says that the Curacao Airport Holding (CAH), which owns the airport, has been given the authority to negotiate the agreement for the construction of such a hotel.

The construction of a new arrival hall will begin in 2015. This will be located, where the old airport is. This building, together with the new one, is currently in use. “The two units are connected to each other. The current 'check-in' hall will be renovated and expanded to the east,” Palm said.  The whole complex will have air conditioners and the sight of the hall will be more attractive.

Also, the middle section of the airport, where travelers have to take up the stairs to go through security and immigration, will be expanded. This is too small, and especially when it is busy it creates long lines of people who are waiting in the heat.
