Supermarkets make vegetable inventory relating to exemption agreement

VegetablesWILLEMSTAD - The supermarkets in Curacao should make a special inventory of all their vegetables to be able to demonstrate that their owners want to import various types other than local vegetables.

This was decided after a meeting between the Curaçao supermarkets, the Department of Agriculture (LVV), Livestock and Fisheries, employees of the Ministry of Economic Development and customs. Reason for this meeting is because there is no longer tax exemption granted for the import of vegetables that are available on the local market.

All colors of peppers may not be introduced for example, while only green peppers are grown on the island. In the second week of August, the supermarkets must have their inventory with photos presented to the LVV, who will ultimately decide on the exemption arrangement.
