Visitor arrival increased by 5% during the first eight months of 2013

Curacao statisticsWILLEMSTAD -  The preliminary visitor statistics gathered by the Curaçao Tourist Board (CTB) show that 35,193 stay-over visitors arrived to the Island of Curaçao in July 2013.

The stay-over arrival figures for the month July 2013 are 2% less than the arrival figures recorded for the same month last year. In 2012 CTB recorded 35,815 visitors in July 2012.

Arrivals from North America increased by 15% in July with a total of 6,098 visitors compared to the 5,305 in July 2012. The United States with 5,844 visitor arrivals recorded a 15% increase. Canada recorded a 9% increase with 254 visitor arrivals this July 2013.

The South American market decreased by 13% in July 2013, with a total of 9,159 visitor arrivals compared to 10,555 in 2012. From Venezuela a total of 5,704 visitors was registered during July 2013. This is a 17% decrease from Venezuela. Suriname registered an increase of 2% in visitor arrivals. In absolute figures the secondary country in South America registered 512 visitor arrivals. Brazil and Colombia registered a decrease in arrivals of respectively 15% and 2% less visitors than last year.

The European market recorded an 8% decrease in July 2013. The market provided a total of 14,245 visitors compared to the 15,405 recorded in July 2012. The main visitor producing country, The Netherlands decreased by 13% with 11,188 in July 2013 compared to 12,818 in 2012. Germany grew recording 5% more visitors in July 2013. A total of 1,000 visitors were welcomed. Last year this same month recorded 949 German visitors.

Stay over visitors to Curaçao from the Caribbean region increased by 3% in July 2013. A total of 3,932 visitors is registered. Aruba registered a decrease of 1%. In 2013 2,064 arrivals are recorded from this country.

Preliminary Figures August 2013

The visitor statistics gathered in August 2013 show that 38,914 stay-over visitors arrived to the Island of Curaçao. The visitor arrival figures for this month are flat (0%). In 2012 CTB recorded 39,076 stay-over visitors in August 2012.

Visitor arrivals from North America increased by 2% in August with a total of 6,418 visitors compared to the 6,303 in August 2012. The United States with 6,126 stay over arrivals recorded a 3% increase. Canada recorded a 17% decrease with 292 stay over arrivals this August 2013.

The South American market decreased by 2% in August 2013, with a total of 12,639 stay over arrivals compared to 12,865 in 2012. From Venezuela a total of 7,892 visitors was registered during August 2013. This is a 4% decrease from Venezuela. Suriname and Brazil registered an increase in stay over arrivals. These are respectively 11% and 47%.

In absolute figures the secondary countries in South America registered 1,509 and 795 stay-over arrivals. Colombia has registered a decrease of 5% in stay-over arrivals.

The European market recorded a decrease of 2% in August 2013. The market provided a total of 14,450 stay-over arrivals compared to the 14,726 recorded in August 2012. The main visitor producing country, The Netherlands decreased by 5% with 11,095 in August 2013 compared to 11,726 in 2012. Germany stayed flat (0%) in August 2013. A total of 1,177 German visitors is registered in August 2013. In 2012 we registered 1,180 visitors from Germany.

Stay over visitors to Curaçao from the Caribbean region decreased by 8% in August 2013. A total of 3,985 visitors is registered. Aruba registered a decrease of 14%. In August 2013, 2,060 stay-over arrivals are registered from Aruba.

Year To Date Arrivals; January To August 2013

All together 289,979 stay-over visitors were welcomed during the first eight months of 2013. This is a 5% increase in visitor arrivals compared to 2012. Last year CTB registered during this period 277,028 visitor arrivals.

The North American region increased by 4% during the first eight months of 2013. A total of 52,069 visitors from this region are registered. The South American region increased by 11%. There were 82,436 during the first eight months of 2013 compared to the 74,404 visitors registered in 2012. The Caribbean region welcomed the same number of visitors (0%) during this period, which in absolute numbers for 2013 are 26,572 visitors. From the European region we welcomed 116,124 visitors compared to 120,239 during the first eight months. Recording a 3% decrease.

The overall nights spent on the island are flat (0%). All together stay over tourists spent 2,450,118 nights in Curaçao during the first eight months of 2012. The North American region decreased by 1% during the first eight months of 2013 in visitor’s nights. The South American region increased by 4%. The Caribbean region decreased by 1% during this period. From the European region we registered 5% less visitor’s nights.
