International mob sensation “Gomorrah” returns to MAX Caribbean on July 11th
The critically acclaimed mafia drama series premieres its second season, filmed in Italy, Germany and Costa Rica
MIAMI – HBO confirms the exclusive second season premiere of the internationally acclaimed mob drama series, Gomorrah, airing on MAX Caribbean on July 11th at 22hrs in the Caribbean. Based on Roberto Saviano's bestseller and the Cannes Grand Jury Prize winning feature film by Matteo Garrone, the Italian mafia saga has become a worldwide sensation, and returns for a new season of 12 episodes that were shot over eight months between Italy, Germany and Costa Rica.
The story of Gomorrah begins with Saviano’s real-life journey infiltrating Camorra, the Neopolitan mafia. The experience exposed various elements of the crime organization’s businesses and daily life, and became a literary juggernaut selling more than 10 million copies. The book led to a film and ultimately the development of the series that goes behind the mafia’s forbidden doors as told through the eyes of 30-year-old Ciro Di Marzio as the right hand of the clan's godfather, Pietro Savastano.
Season two picks up with the future of the Savastanos’ reign largely uncertain. The family’s previously unchallenged rule over all of northern Naples has come to an end, with all the players fighting over the remains of the kingdom. Ciro is exploring old and new alliances, with a master plan in mind: to achieve his long-envisioned big break. Beneath this family saga lies the tale of a country, of an economy, of the relationship between men, their life and death. The second season ofGomorrah is ultimately about how death is the game changer in the dynamics of power and how a predisposition for death gives a man (or a woman) a potential for command.
Starring Marco D’Amore as Ciro and Fortunato Cerlino as Pietro, the series also includes performances by Salvatore Esposito as Genny Savastano, Pietro’s immature son who Ciro has been entrusted to prepare as the future boss of the family. Marco Palvetti plays the role of Salvatore Conte, the exiled villain and competitor of the Savastano clan, seeking revenge and victory at any cost.
The second season also introduces two new female protagonists, Patrizia and Scianel, portrayed by Cristiana dell’Anna and Cristina Donadio respectively, who enter the storyline through unpredictable circumstances and will be tested based on the alliances they forge.
Gomorrah was adapted for television by Stefano Bises, Leonardo Fasoli and Roberto Saviano. Produced by Sky Atlantic, Cattleya and Fandango in collaboration with Beta Film, the second season was written by Stefano Bises, Leonardo Fasoli, Ludovica Rampoldi and Maddalena Ravagli. The second season of Gomorrah was directed by Stefano Sollima, Francesca Comencini, Claudio Cupellini, and Claudio Giovannesii.
