Press Release: Pontoon Festival canceled

Curacao-Ponton-Festival-2018WILLEMSTAD - Organizer Sumusica Curaçao B.V. today officially canceled the Curaçao Ponton Festival during a press conference that took place at the Acoya Curaçao Resort.

Wednesday evening the decision was made after a concurrence of circumstances ensured that it is no longer financially responsible to organize the festival. "The shrinking economy clearly has a negative impact on the population and this was noticeable due to disappointing ticket sales," explains Gisgard Felida of Sumusica Curaçao B.V. from. The organization received many positive reactions from interested festival visitors on Curaçao and abroad for the first edition of Curaçao Ponton Festival. The Curaçao Pontoon Festival was supposed to take place on 5, 6 and 7 April. Despite the enthusiasm for this three-day music festival and the many promotions through traditional and social media, too few tickets were sold.

Also, two main acts of the Friday night were canceled due to unforeseen circumstances. Rich Kalash was unable to perform at the last moment during the Urban Friday on April 6, because he was arrested at the airport by the justice department in the Netherlands on Wednesday. On that day the management of Rich Kalash could not guarantee that he could give a musical performance on Friday. On Wednesday, the organization was already faced with the difficult choice to cancel the performance of Ronnie Flex. “We have tried to come up with alternative solutions to ensure that we were able to fly Ronnie Flex and his band according to the requirements of their management, but taking into account the current budget, and due to the disappointing ticket sales, we had to carefully monitor our budget. The organization greatly regrets this regrettable combination of circumstances and apologizes for the inconvenience.”

Sumusica Curaçao B.V. will refund all those who already bought tickets for the festival. The refund of the money will take place in stages. Next week the organizer will provide more information in the newspapers and on the Facebook page of the Curaçao Ponton Festival about the refund.
