Aqualectra: ‘Power failure was sabotage’

AqualectraWILLEMSTAD - The power outage yesterday struck large parts of Willemstad, according to Aqualectra this was the result of sabotage. There was at that time no reason, which could have caused the blackout. The employees were on strike during the day demanding the management to comply with their demands for a new collective agreement. The plant in Nieuwe Haven was locked and the employees were not able to enter the premises.

The Saliña area and the coastline up to Lions Dive sat for an hour without power. Later, the power went out in Emmastad, Biesheuvel, Damacor and Mahaai.

Apparently a switch unit was stolen by unknowns. According to the company’s spokesperson, they will investigate the cause of the blackout and then make a statement in the media.
