First tropical depression likely to become a tropical storm later today

hurricaneWILLEMSTAD - At 4:00 a.m. The center of Tropical Depression Number One was located near Latitude 27.6 degrees north and Longitude 79.3 degrees west or about 155 kilometers southeast of the Cape Canaveral, Florida.

The Depression is moving toward the west near 4 km/h. A turn toward the northwest and then to the north is forecast by Wednesday. On the forecast track, the center of the tropical cyclone is expected to remain offshore and move east of the east-central coast of Florida during the next day or so. The system is forecast to pass east of northeastern Florida on Wednesday and Wednesday night.

Maximum sustained winds are near 55 km/h, with higher gusts. Some strengthening is expected during the next 48 hours and the depression is expected to become a Tropical storm later today.
