Former Minister Monk officially a suspect in Magnus case

MonkWILLEMSTAD – Former Minister Carlos Monk is now officially a suspect in the Magnus case, which is the investigation into the murder of the late political leader and Member of Parliament, Helmin Wiels. Monk confirmed today that he received a call last Friday afternoon to inform him that since July 11 he is an official suspect in the case. He was asked to report at the Public Prosecution (OM) for interrogation today. It is not clear if he followed those instructions.

Monk lashed out against what he has called “the Gestapo in The Hague” which is politically persecuting him. Monk referred to the OM and the Federal investigation team (RST), which is in charge of the investigation. The monk said that the person who called him, had an arrogant and blackmailing tone.

Monk indicated that he is a revolutionary and a fighter for independence and that he will fight against the established interests and also against the colonial forces.

Monk was Minister for Pueblo Soberano (Wiels’ party) during the government headed by Gerrit Schotte. After the 2012 election, he turned his back on his party.
