MP goes against his leader: “Membership Parlatino is important for Curaçao”
WILLEMSTAD – Member of Parliament for Korsou di Nos Tur of businessman Amparo dos Santos, Meindert Rojer believes that Curaçao’s membership in Parlatino means a lot for the island.
Parlatino is the representation of the communities of Latin America and Caribbean. According to Rojer, Parlatino also represents Curaçao. “We are a country in development. A country going through a decolonization process. In this process we can use the power and influence of the Parlatino,” said Rojer during his explanation of why he will attend the Parlatino meeting.
According to Rojer, the Parlatino is not just a trip to Panama for politicians to go and enjoy themselves. “This is an absurd way of thinking. Those who go to the Parlatino without doing anything are also those who are in Curaçao and don’t do anything.”
These comments made by the Member of Parliament for Korsou di Nos Tur are remarkable because a few weeks ago the leader of the party, Amparo dos Santos declared that the MPs should be ashamed of themselves for going to these meetings of the Parlatino.
Dos Santos said that Curaçao’s participation does not benefit the island. He said that the island has been in Parlatino for many years and he has not seen a single new hotel, cruise ship, business, or more jobs coming from the organization. “Why are we still members?”
