Teachers are still on strike

SitekWILLEMSTAD – This morning the teachers will meet at Sitek’s headquarters in Stenen Koraal to discuss the situation with their union leaders.

Yesterday, the teachers marched to Fort Amsterdam, the Parliament building and Minister Van der Horst’s office to protest the austerity measures which will be introduced by the Minister of Education, Irene Dick.

The teachers are being led by the president of the union, Darius ‘Lio’ Plantijn, who will also be present today during the meeting at their headquarters. Many parents have brought their children to school today, but to their surprise there was no one to receive them at school. According to Plantijn, the union announced on Sunday that there will be two days of protest. Some parents also said that they don’t see why the teachers are on strike since they had a meeting with the Minister of Education last Sunday. The Minister said, after the meeting, that the unions received the necessary information about the cuts in education.
