UPDATE: Whiteman at governor, PAR to join
WILLEMSTAD - It is still unclear whether the PAR will join the coalition, which has lost its majority in parliament. Reportedly, the yellow party asked for the Economic Development portfolio, which is now in the hands of PAIS. This party would be willing to relinquish the post.
The PAR had at an earlier stage in the negotiations also asked to designate the Minister Plenipotentiary to replace the controversial Marvelyne Wiels. Pueblo Soberano, who had appointed Wiels, was not prepared to do that. But the PAR now seems to be satisfied if PS appoints someone else as Minister Plenipotentiary. For the PAR, Wiels must step down.
This morning there should be more clarity, as has been announced. Prime Minister Ben Whiteman is currently at the governor to inform her of the situation.
