“a new non-surgical therapy for tendon injuries and osteoarthritis used by pro-athletes is now available at your specialists office”

FigueroaMiami – Platelet Rich Plasma “PRP” is the name given to a treatment option that is conducted to stimulate healing through an injection of one's own growth factors into the damaged area under ultrasound. It is an emerging treatment in a new health sector known as ”Orthobiologics” which is the inclusion of biology and biochemistry in the “natural” development of bone and soft tissue for skeletal and tissue healing.

The goal of PRP Injections are to use the body’s own platelets as a catalyst for a faster healing time. In this process the patients blood is withdrawn then be put into a centrifuge where the platelets are extracted (platelets are now known to release healing proteins known as growth factors) the solution will then be injected directly into the injured site using an ultrasound guided technique. These proteins stimulate repair and regeneration, offering the patient pain relief and a faster healing time.

Scientists have now developed natural based tools to selectively isolate the growth factors within PRP that meet the needs of customizing the treatment by reducing inflammation and simultaneously stimulating repair. PRP can treat, but is not limited to, nerve injuries, tendinitis, osteoarthritis, muscle, joint and ligament lesions, cardiac muscle injury, bone repair and regeneration.

“It’s a better cure for injuries that don’t necessarily have a concrete solution— it’s non-surgical and because it uses the patient’s own blood there’s little danger of an adverse reaction or disease.” said Dr. Miguel Figueroa, Neurologist and Pain Management specialist at the Advanced Neuro Spine Institute. “I’d say that  PRP has changed sports medicine and orthopedics for good. It’s also a great, lower cost alternative, to surgery when feasible.”

Elite pro-athletes such as Tiger Woods, Rafael Nadal, Kobe Bryant and Alex Rodriquez, have also given notoriety to this procedure.
