Chance of malaria in Curaςao is small

MosquitoWILLEMSTAD - The chance of the malaria disease appearing in Curaςao is small. This is according to entomologist Gisette Seferina. In Venezuela, the number of malaria cases has increased fivefold in recent years.

The malaria mosquito does not exist in Curaçao and the circumstances are also not favorable for them. According to Seferina, the mosquito needs fresh running water such as rivers. So the chance is small that a malaria mosquito that travels will reproduce.

In principle, it is possible that during heavy showers the mosquitoes reproduce in rivers that are caused by rainfall.
