20,514 traffic fines issued in 2014
WILLEMSTAD - In the year 2014, the police and other authorities have issued a total of 20,514 traffic tickets, according to official reports. The figures from the Public Prosecutor (OM) in Curaçao shows that the behavior of motorists in Curacao needs to be improved.
Some offenses are, according to the figures from 2014, very common. The Prosecution is discussing this and believes that a lot more attention should be paid to this in the near future. This applies in particular to offenses like driving through a red light, driving without being in possession of a valid driving license, speeding and driving without a valid insurance certificate.
The following violations were registered during the year 2014:
Drive without a seatbelt on 4746, cannot show a valid driver's license 3736, cannot show a valid insurance certificate 2751, cannot show a valid car inspection certificate 1953, did not pay road tax 1937, telephoning while driving 906, driving through a red light 574, driving through a one way street 493, speeding 489, driving a motorcycle without a helmet 366 and driving without a license plate 140.
