ABC Islands participated in large Interpol operation

DrugsWILLEMSTAD - Aruba, Curacao and Bonaire have participated in an Interpol-led operation, involving more than 27 ½ tons of drugs seized. In this operation, called Lionfish II, 35 countries participated. This was reported by the Aruban news site NoticiaCla.com.

The mission was aimed at combating the illegal drugs and arms of organized crime in the Caribbean and Central America. Cocaine, cannabis and heroin were seized in the action. Only the cocaine would have a value of 1.3 billion US dollars.

The action lasted from December 1 to 12 and resulted in 422 arrests. Besides the mentioned drugs, 7.6 tons of chemical drugs, 100 weapons and 2.2 million US dollars in cash were also seized. Two of the persons arrested in the Dominican Republic and Peru were on the list of suspects sought by Interpol in connection with illegal arms and drug trafficking.
