Again spear fishermen caught by the Coast Guard
WILLEMSTAD - The Rescue and Coordination Center (RCC) of the Caribbean Coastguard (KWCARIB) received a call last Sunday, April 24th, that there were two people spearfishing at Marie Pampoen.
A patrol was immediately dispatched to the area and when they arrived they found two men with a spear gun. They were requested by the Coast Guard to remain at the place where they were fishing, but did not respond to this and swam to shore.
Two coast guards jumped right behind them so they could not escape. One of the men tried to run away even after he came ashore, but was soon overtaken and stopped by a coast guard. He tried to resist, and even the coast guard watchman was hereby also threatened. He was handcuffed and police officers were called to take over the suspect and to take him directly to the magistrate.
The police is investigating the case because the man does not have the necessary residence papers.
The other man was given a police report for fishing with a harpoon. The spear gun that was found later and the fish were seized.
