Bank employee stole million to gamble
WILLEMSTAD – We usually don’t report on this type of news, but this one has caught our attention. We wonder if the banks here on the island have systems in place to keep their employees from stealing during work hours.
A 30-year-old bank employee yesterday was sentenced because she knew how to steal one million guilders and six thousand dollars from the bank where she was employed. She did this between 2009 and 2011, each time in small amounts.
With that money, she financed her casino addiction. The judge gave her 10 days in jail, 240 hours community service and she must report to a rehabilitation center.
She must also repay the 1 million guilders. Her probation officer will assist her to find a job and to repay.
