Baywatch case: prison sentences of 5 to 7.5 years
WILLEMSTAD – Despite the actions of prison guards today, the court of first instance ruled in the well-known case dubbed Baywatch. The five defendants could not be present in court because of the actions, but their lawyers were.
All five have been convicted of drug smuggling. The three coast guard officers were found guilty of violation of their official secrecy as special police officer. The Public Prosecution (OM) demanded eight years in prison for each. Yet they each got different prison sentences.
Coast Guard officer Frans was sentenced to 7.5 years, Sulvaran to 6 years and Dalnoot to 7 years in prison. The two others who also stood trial for possession, Windster and the only female suspect Rojer received 5 and 6.5 years respectively. The OM demanded 6 and 9 years for them. The convicts have two weeks to file for an appeal in their case.
