Escaped prisoners still at large

PrisonerWILLEMSTAD - The two prisoners who escaped yesterday from the Curacao prison (SDKK) are still at large. A huge manhunt by police, Military Police, Navy and Coast Guard has not yet led to any result. The search continues today.

Tourists at Mambo Beach received the shock of their lives yesterday morning. A large number of agents rushed with drawn guns and heavy weapons on the beach looking for the criminals.

Earlier, police reported that it was four prisoners, but that was not correct. It involves two heavy criminals, the 26-year-old Liomar Winklaar and the 23-year-old Eni Carmelia. They had assaulted two prison guards shortly before their escape. One of them was strangled until he was unconscious and the other was tied.

The escape was prepared in the furniture workshop of the prison where Winklaar and Carmelia were being taught. The two used a long piece of wood that they leaned against the prison wall to climb over it and escape in the direction of the beach.

Police immediately started an extensive manhunt near the Koraalspecht area and on the beach and got support from the military police and four so-called combat trackers of the Marine Corps. The Coast Guard assisted by a helicopter.

Winklaar has experience with escaping prison. In March 2009, he also managed to escape. Following a brief hostage, he was arrested again a month later. He was sentenced to 24 years in prison for committing a double murder of a Dutch couple in 2005.

PrisonersCarmelia was sentenced in 2012 to nine years in prison for robbing and raping three women. Two of them were from the Netherlands. One was working at the Public Prosecution’s Office. During that investigation, it turned out that he had raped another woman in January of that same year. An expert report stated at the time that the recurrence rate is high.

These prisoners are extremely dangerous. If you have any information, please contact the police immediately at 917.
