Maximus case against Fonseca postponed again
WILLEMSTAD - The case against Burney 'Nini' Fonseca, who according to the Public Prosecutor is one of the intellectual perpetrators - or functioned as an intermediary - in the murder of politician Helmin Wiels in May 2013, was postponed for an indefinite period. This was also the case in 2014.
The investigation must be completed. At the request of Fonseca's lawyer Marije Vaders, the defence will receive two months' notice when the day of the trial will be.
Fonseca was present via video conference. He is currently in a maximum security prison in the Netherlands. It was a pre-trial, in which the state of affairs and the investigation were discussed. They were supposed to set a date for the trial but it did not come to that.
Prosecutor Gert Rip was not able to propose a date because, according to him, it is not clear who should be present on that day. This is due to security issues. According to the judge, they should also take into account the seating area since they will expect a large crowd.
The date will then be announced later.
