Minister Nelson Navarro appeal Wernet case

NavarroWILLEMSTAD - Following the lifting of the suspension of Chief of Police Marlon Wernet, Nelson Navarro, Minister of Justice, said that he disagrees with the reasoning of the judgment and has filed an appeal.

Wednesday, the court annulled Wernet’s suspension and ordered the Minister to return the Chief of Police back to his post. But the Minister’s appeal makes this impossible for now, because the appeal suspends execution of the ruling.

The Minister has sent Wernet on administrative leave, which led to a formal suspension on December 10, 2013. This suspension was lifted last Wednesday. The Minister stated that he does not agree with the judge. After being asked what his reason is for not agreeing with the judge, the Minister said that when he returns to the island, he will explain in details his motives for filing an appeal. He also indicated that he will have to study the judge’s arguments before making any comments.

Wernet was suspended after one of the main suspects in the case Magno, which is the investigation into the murder of the late politician Helmin Wiels, committed suicide in his cell at the police complex in Barber located at the western side of the island.
