Nini Fonseca remains behind bars
WILLEMSTAD - Burney 'Nini' Fonseca remains behind bars. Fonseca is still a suspect in the Maximus case, which is the investigation into the intellectual authors of the murder of the former popular politician, Helmin Wiels. According to the investigators, Fonseca would have acted as intermediary. But he was set free earlier in the legal process against the perpetrators of the murder, the Magnus case. According to the judge there was not enough evidence back then to keep Fonseca behind bars.
Recently Fonseca ended up behind bars yet again for his involvement in a drug trafficking and money laundering case. The Court has now rejected a request for release. This was announced recently. There are various accusations against Fonseca. There were also no urgent personal reasons to let him go.
Moreover, Fonseca's name surfaced again this week in connection with the big gold robbery in 2012 from a ship in the port of Willemstad. He had been seen the day before, with three others, including men with the nicknames Gamba and Venenu. They wore the same kind of bulletproof vest printed with POLIS, which were also used in the robbery.
