OM needs more time in case Wiels

CourtWILLEMSTAD - The Public Prosecutor (OM) needs more time before the murder at the Curaçao politician Helmin Wiels can be treated in substance. This became clear during the so-called pro forma session.

According to prosecutor Ger Rip, more people have to be questioned. Originally, the trial was planned for May 21, 22 and 23. Rip wants the case to be heard in court at least three months later.

Wiels was shot dead on a local beach on May 5, 2013. One of the suspects regrets what he has done and wants more openness in this case. This man, the 37-year-old Elvis Curaçao Kuwas is suspected of two other murders. “Now it is necessary to question four more people in this case,” Rip said.

Besides Kuwas, who was transferred to the Netherlands in March because his safety could not be guaranteed in the Curaçao prison, there are three more people in detention. One of them, the 41-year-old Burney Fonseca, was, according to Kuwas, the one who received the order to murder of Helmin Wiels. Fonseca actually received this order a year before Wiels was murdered.
