OM uses Right of Substitution against magistrate

CourtroomWILLEMSTAD – The Public Prosecution of Curaçao (OM) has filed a request to use their Right of Substitution against the investigating magistrate Hans Kroeze. This was done yesterday morning at the Court of Justice. The exact reason was not given, neither for which case was this request filed.

Kroeze has been in the news lately for releasing various suspects who were in pre-trial detention. Kroeze released former Minister of Justice, George Jamaloodin, who is a suspect in the case Maximus, which is the investigation into the intellectual authors of the murder of Helmin Wiels.

Kroeze also released three suspects in the case of stolen copper wires. These three suspects were arrested at a warehouse in Zealand, where these copper wires were found.

It’s not up to the special section of the Court of Justice dealing with the Right of Substitution to rule whether investigating magistrate Kroeze is biased or if he has other interests which are conflicting with his position as magistrate.
