Police ID Curaçao man as victim in deadly Amsterdam shooting
AMSTERDAM - The man gunned down in the doorway of the Kruitberg apartment building in Amsterdam Zuidoost last week, is 35 year old Carlos Miquelito Bonevacia, originally from Curacao and known as “Maiky” to his friends, the police revealed on Opsporing Verzocht on Tuesday.
Bonevacia was gunned down at around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12th, while waiting for the elevator in the apartment building, where he lived with his mother. He was hit several times, including in his head. Emergency services tried to resuscitate him, but he died at the scene.
A surveillance camera video shows Bonevacia slowly walking to the apartment building, on crutches due to a recent surgery to his knee. He was heading home after watching a football game at a nearby cafe. The footage shows a man walking towards Bonevacia from across the street. The man picks up his pace as his victim enters the building and follows him in. The shooting happened a few seconds later. The perpetrator then leaves the building and runs in the direction of Kleiburg.
The perpetrator is a thin, dark skinned man, possibly of Dominican, Antillean or Surinamese descent. He is athletically built and has a wide nose. He was wearing a dark track suit and black running shoes of the Nike brand at the time of the shooting. The police would like to talk to anyone who can give them more information about this man.
According to Het Parool, Bonevacia was known as a petty criminal due to his involvement in small-scale drug trafficking. He is not known to have any links to serious organized crime and as yet there seems to be no connection between his murder and the recent assassinations in the Amsterdam gang war.
In 2013 Bonevacia was caught in the Dominican Republic with 9 thousand euros on his person. Customs confiscated the money, a fact which Bonevacia opposed in court. He was successful – last year the court ruled that the money had to be returned to him.
The police are also looking to speak to anyone who can give more information about Bonevacia and his life.
