Preventive body search and fines during carnival
WILLEMSTAD – The police corps is ready to act tough against crime during the carnival season. They will perform preventive body search, especially during the various carnival events. There will be no prosecution for certain delicts, but the perpetrators will be fined immediately. The fine must be paid at the police station the same day. Offenses that will be punished immediately are, for example, fights or the possession of small amounts of narcotics.
The preventive body search is part of the government’s action plan dubbed “Ta Basta Awor” (It’s enough).
The Public Prosecution has prepared a price list for a number of offenses. In the context of the new action plan “B’a aktua robes, sintieunbes” (When you break the law, then you feel it immediately), the fine must be paid immediately after arrest at the police station. If no response is given to the proposal a subpoena will then be prepared.
