Rental cars seized in ‘take away’ investigation
PHILLIPSBURG, WILLEMSTAD – On January 26, 2016, the Criminal Investigation Cooperation Team (RST) in close collaboration with the Police Corps Sint Maarten confiscated in total nine cars on various places in Sint Maarten.
These cars are owned by a car rental company. There is a strong suspicion that these were purchased with money originating from trade in narcotics that was laundered through the rental company.
The RST, at the request of the Public Prosecution, has been investigating the car rental and its owner for quite some time now.
The confiscation of the cars from the car rental are a consequence of this investigation.
In the coming period, the RST will continue investigation the origin of the cars and the rental company. The purpose of the investigation is depriving or ‘take away’ criminal assets.
