Request to suspend Corallo’s remand rejected
WILLEMSTAD - The Court decided on Wednesday, April 12 to reject the request to lift the provisional arrest of Francesco Corallo. The request to place him in the infirmary of the Pointe Blanche prison in Sint Maarten was also refused.
This means that Corallo remains behind bars pending the hearing of his extradition. The lawyers of the accused had submitted their request for suspension or cancellation of provisional detention on March 21. Treatment took place on April 4.
This was the third request for cancellation or suspension of the provisional arrest Corralo that was rejected by the Court. He was arrested because he is suspected tax evasion and money laundering. He is pending his extradition to Italy at the request of Italian authorities. The request for extradition was made on December 13, 2016.
