Ruling appeal case Magnus
WILLEMSTAD - The court will decide the appeal in the case of Magnus this afternoon at 14:00. Elvis Kuwas alias 'Monster' was sentenced last year August to life imprisonment for the murder of the politician and Member of Parliament, Helmin Wiels. But he claims to be innocent. In previous interrogations, he confessed 21 times to the murder.
Kuwas said that he was 'weak' when he confessed the murder. One of the reasons he was weak because he was not allowed to see his wife and children. The judges were not impressed by his statement during the appeal. “How can you confess to a murder you did not commit?”
The two other suspects, Carlos P. and D. Dangelo, were found not guilty of the murder of Wiels. This to the dismay of the Public Prosecutor (OM). In the appeal, the prosecution demanded twenty years in prison for Dangelo D. and five years for Carlos P. This is according to the previous demand in the proceedings in August last year.
The lawyers of the trio will give their plea today and the court will rule afterwards.
