Sulvaran “Process Babel not fair”
WILLEMSTAD - There is no due process in the case of Babel case. This is according to the attorney of former Prime Minister Gerrit Schotte, and his life partner Cicely van der Dijs Eldon Peppie Sulvaran during the first day of the trial.
According to the lawyer, the right to privacy of the defendants was violated and has not complied with the principles of due process.
Furthermore, the defense said that because the Public Prosecution (OM) is investing so much time and effort in cases like Babel and Bientu (case against lottery boss Robbie dos Santos), it is obvious that the OM only deals with cases of major political importance.
The defense wants the court to declare the case inadmissible. The prosecution demanded in this case three-year unconditional prison sentence against Schotte and eighteen months against his life partner Cicely Van der Dijs.
