Supreme Court is still waiting for ‘Babel’ file

SchotteTHE HAGUE - Since the pronouncement of the verdict in the Babel case in appeal in July 2017, the file of Gerrit Schotte and partner Cicely van der Dijs up to and including yesterday did not arrive at the Supreme Court in The Hague for the cassation proceedings.

That is what a spokesperson for the Supreme Court of the Netherlands told the Dutch newspaper Antilliaans Dagblad. The appeal in the Babel case - in which Schotte and Van der Dijs are suspected of, among other things, money laundering and forgery - dates from Friday, July 21, 2017.

Like the Court of First Instance, the Court of Appeal sentenced Schotte and Van der Dijs to prison sentences. Immediately after the judgment, the two suspects filed their cases to the Supreme Court to try to obtain an acquittal for the offenses against them.
