Suspect arrested in the murder case of Curaçao politician Helmin Wiels

Court houseZOETERMEER, The Netherlands - A 26-year-old man was arrested on Saturday in Zoetermeer and is suspected of involvement in the murder of the politician Helmin Wiels. This is according to anonymous sources in the Dutch media.

The suspect was not the shooter in the liquidation of Wiels. The National Office of the Public Prosecutor in Rotterdam did not respond substantively to the arrest of the man. He was arrested at the request of the authorities in Curaçao.

The spokesman for the Office of Public Prosecution in Curacao, Norman Serphos, confirms that the man from Curacao is a suspect involved in a recent murder on the island. He will only go into details about the reason for this arrest after the man arrives in Curacao and is interrogated.

The suspect was arrested Saturday night around 22:30. He was arraigned on Sunday before a magistrate, who has cleared him to be transferred to Curacao as soon as possible. According to Serphos this is being settled now.
