Why me? Let the Public Prosecution answer this

Public ProsecutionWILLEMSTAD – You have just been signaled by the police to stop. You are searched and your car and luggage were probably also searched. The aforementioned brings with it discomfort and inconvenience. Maybe because of that you missed an appointment, or you could not pick your children up at school on time. And there was no suspicion whatsoever against you. Can this take place like that?

Both the judicial and police authorities are doing their best to make the island safer by searching for as many illegal arms as possible. Pursuant to a national ordinance of 2006, the Public Prosecutor’s Office is allowed to point out an area, where the police and judicial authorities can conduct a thorough investigation with regard to illegal arms. There are certain rules attached to the so-called preventive search. For example, women are only allowed to be searched by female police officers and men only by male police officers. One must heed to orders given by the police, however, the police must proceed correctly.

If you are of the opinion that you have been rebuffed, you can file a written complaint with the Public Prosecutor’s Office. The judicial and police authorities request your understanding for this action. The curbing of illegal possession of arms is in the interest of us all.
