Zr. Ms. Van Amstel heads to Curacao for drugs hunt
THE HAGUE, WILLEMSTAD - The multipurpose frigate Zr. Ms. Van Amstel starts on Sunday, May 17 its journey from Den Helder, the Netherlands to the Caribbean. It will stay in this area for more than four months.
The ship will run more counter-drug operations and coast guard duties. On board there are 160 crew members.
Zr. Ms. Van Amstel is deployed to combat illegal practices. The main task of the station ship is conducting counter-drug operations.
The ship also ensures maritime presence in close cooperation with the Caribbean Coast Guard and the ship can be used for providing relief in case of hurricane disaster. The crew will go through an intensive disaster exercise in Aruba.
The M-frigate will enter the harbor in Curaçao with the traditional ceremonial salute on June 1. The ship will be assisted by the American Law Enforcement Detachment to carry out its counter-drug operations. The ship will be equipped with an American helicopter.
