100 years of Caribbean music
WILLEMSTAD - “In the spirit of the centennial celebration of our branding partner Maduro & Curiel’s Bank, Skempi has compiled and published a music collection named “100 influential songs of the past 100 years.”
Picking the selections for this list was a challenging task considering the vast selection of music produced on the ABC islands this past century. But in collaboration with many local music experts, the teams were able to compile a list of the 100 songs that became a fixture in the musical landscape of the island of Curaçao in that time.
The collection includes some of the very first recordings to ever be released on the ABC-islands, going back as far as the 1930’s. And from classics like “Para Pretu” by Kimu Kandelaria, “Azucena” by Edgar Palm and “Abo So” by Padú Del Caribe to contemporary sensations like “Bo Mirada” by Aemy Niafeliz, “No Bai” by Gentz and “Dushi Bida” by Jeon & Ataniro, the list pieces together a mosaic of musical tradition on the ABC islands.
