11 thousand registered vehicles without paid road tax

Tax InspectorateWILLEMSTAD - Figures from the Tax Department shows that there are more than 11 thousand cars driving around without a valid road tax card. Assuming that there are about 85 thousand cars on the island, so this is roughly about 1 in 8 cars.

The Tax Collector is sounding the alarm and thinks that the police should cooperate by doing more traffic checkpoints aimed at vehicle documents inspection.

Vehicle owners have the possibility to pay their road tax in two installments. The first installment must be paid for this first six months of the year and is due by the end of January each year. The second installment, which is due on June 30 is for the second half of the year. Vehicle owners can also pay the full road tax in one installment.

Currently, the Tax Department indicates that 31 thousand cars have not paid the full year. Of these 31 thousand, 11 thousand did not pay the first part of the year.

According to the law, those vehicles which do not have their papers in order cannot be on public roads.
