400 fruit and vegetable growers will be given priority
WILLEMSTAD - More than 400 Curaçaoans want to grow fruit and vegetables but have been waiting for the government for years for a suitable area to start planting.
The government announced that it will now help the growers and remove the waiting list. This has to be done in 6 months, say the two ministers involved. Minister of Urban Planning Zita Jesus-Leito and Minister of Agriculture Suzanne Camelia-Römer have now come together to solve this issue. The interest in a field for fruit and vegetable growing grew enormously after the closure of the border with Venezuela, resulting in a shortage of fresh vegetables.
Curaçao wants to become more independent from foreign countries for their fruits and vegetables. This is why this has become a priority for the government.
