Admissions Service explains why delay in permit process
WILLEMSTAD – The protocol signed between the Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Social Development, Labor and Welfare relating to the issuing of residency permit has been in effect since January 1 of this year. This covenant ensures a more transparent process, conform the law and legislation when issuing residency permit with employment in mind. Nevertheless, at this moment there are certain delays in the process to receive a residency permit.
According to the abovementioned protocol, when a foreigner petitions for a residency permit for employment, the Admissions Service will treat this petition only if the foreigner submits a copy of his or her employment permit. In the case that the employment permit process is not finished, the Admissions Service cannot process the request for a residency permit. Also for this reason the requests for extension cannot be processed either. This is the reason for the current delay.
Article 9 of the National Ordinance on Admission and Expulsion stipulates that a foreigner must have proof of enough sustainable financial means to be able to receive a residency permit. The employment permit is the proof to receive the residency permit with employment in mind.
