Asbestos removed from Santa Famia Church in Otrabanda
WILLEMSTAD – Work has begun this work to remove asbestos from the Santa Famia Church in Otrabanda. This is according to Brother Franklin Clemencia of the dioceses.
“We have chosen not to give publicity to this, because the last time there were a lot of issues surrounding the cleaning of asbestos at the refinery. People sometimes confuse things and we didn’t want to be part of that discussion.” For the project, the church is using money received from collections. The target was to collect one quarter of a million guilders. According to Clemencia, they did not reach the target, but they will be able to complete the job.
According to the brother, there are many non-budgeted costs added. So the plan was first to paint the ceiling. But the ceiling was found to be in such a bad state that it is now completely renovated. The cleaning is done by a local company, the company has brought an expert from the Netherlands.
